President and Committee elections
The DSWAA Rules of Association state that Committee members are elected for a term of one year. Members must be currently financial to be eligible to vote.
At each Annual General Meeting (AGM) the number of Committee members to serve for the next year is determined by a resolution. Depending on the number of nominees, elections are held for the position of President and the balance of Committee members. The 2023 AGM resolved that the Committee will consist of a maximum of 12 members including President & Office Holders.
Nominations for President and the Committee are invited and must be received by cob Thursday 25 July 2024. If insufficient nominations are received, nominations may be received at the AGM. Any financial member of the DSWAA who has been a member over 6 months can nominate for President and for a Committee member. Should more nominations be received for President or available Committee positions, an election for those positions will be held at the AGM.
The Nomination Form also provides for nominees to indicate if they have an interest in the Office Holder positions of Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary.
If there is an election, nominees may address the AGM briefly.
Immediately following the AGM, the newly elected President and Committee will meet to appoint office holders (Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer). Portfolio Convenors also may be appointed.
Notes for Presidential candidates addressing the AGM:
Nominees for the position of President may address the AGM briefly. This is a good opportunity to allow voting members to assess the suitability of the nominee for the role.
As a guide, it is suggested that the nominee might cover:
- Number of years as a DSWAA member
- Reasons why they seek the role of President
- Skills, experience, and connections they bring to the role
- How they would share and devolve responsibilities
- Their understanding of:
- the role of DSWAA as a national body
- the Vision, Statement of Purposes, and philosophical goals of the Association
- the aim to facilitate social and learning activities that foster inclusion and involvement both of and for members,
- What changes to the DSWAA scope, management and focus they would propose, if any
- Other points which would support their nomination.
