The Association held its 2016 Annual General Meeting on Saturday 19 June in Camperdown, Victoria. A total of 24 members attended the meeting at which the Annual Report and Financial Statements for the year to 30 May were presented.
Being the end of the two year election period, all office bearer and committee member positions were declared vacant and nominations called for. All existing positions were filled by the incumbents and Geoff Thomas was elected to a vacant committee position.
Following the AGM a lunch was enjoyed by all present, during which our Secretary, Andrew Miller, gave an illustrated talk on the diversity of dry stone walls and then on their repair, or ‘gapping’, assisted by professional member, Alistair Tune.
Members then travelled to Pomborneit North, east of Camperdown, where Alsitair, along with professional waller David Long, and a number of keen members participated in the repair of a section of a roadside wall that had collapsed. The demonstration was accompanied by advice and guidance by Alistair and David and, after about an hour and a half, the wall looked better than new, with the reconstructed area barely identifiable. Given the variety of styles, therein lies the art of a skilled waller. Members were able to enjoy tea and coffee in the nearby hall during the afternoon.
