07/03/2021 by murally

For registering and payment, please go to our events section of the website for this trip. Please note, because there are a number of options, you will have to book each separately.

Our Autumn Field Trip will be a spectacular journey – all by bus – through a region famous for its slate quarries, heritage buildings and dry stone walls and structures. Here are the details:

On Saturday the tour starts at Willunga and heads to:

  • Martin’s Slate Quarry
  • Willunga Slate Museum
  • Delabole Quarry chapel
  • …and properties with noteworthy old and new dry stone walls.
  • Aldinga Arts/Eco Village dry stone work (of variable quality but interesting)

An optional group dinner will follow on Saturday evening where a wood-oven pizza will be created before your very eyes! This will be followed by a talk by renowned architect Phil Harris (see his article in Issue 47 of ”The Flag Stone”): Heritage matters

On Sunday we are off to the Strathalbyn/Highland Valley area to visit a number of historic properties, concluding around 4 pm.
